Junior ISA rules, from GOV.UK A child can have a Junior ISA if they're under 18 and live in the UK. They can't also have a Child Trust Fund. Up to £9,000 can be paid in for the 2026 to 2027 tax year, across all of the child's Junior ISAs. A parent or guardian with parental responsibility opens and manages it, but the money belongs to the child. The child can take control of the account at 16, but can't withdraw the money until they turn 18. Source: GOV.UK: Junior Individual Savings Accounts , checked 30 October 2026.
Interest on money a parent gives GOV.UK says to tell HMRC if, in a tax year, a child gets more than £100 in interest from money given by a parent. The parent then pays tax on all of that interest if it's above their own Personal Savings Allowance. The £100 limit doesn't apply to money given by grandparents, relatives or friends, or to money in a Junior ISA or Child Trust Fund. GOV.UK: interest on savings for children
Also for children NS&I's Junior ISA is in the table above. Premium Bonds can be bought for a child under 16 by a parent or guardian: see NS&I and Premium Bonds . Accounts here with UK banks and building societies are deposits protected by the FSCS; NS&I's are 100% backed by HM Treasury. Each provider's details are under its table.
